Abstract
The purpose of this study is to verify the mediating effects of mother¡¯s emotional expressiveness and reactions to children¡¯s negative emotions between mother¡¯s parenting efficacy and young children¡¯s emotion regulation. The participants of this study were 269 mothers with their children aged from 3 to 5 years old were surveyed through an online questionnaire. The main results of this study were as follows. First, the partial mediating effects of mother¡¯s positive and negative emotional expressiveness were found in the relationship between mother¡¯s parenting efficacy and children¡¯s emotion regulation. Second, it has been observed that mother¡¯s positive, negative emotional expressiveness and mother¡¯s non-supportive reactions to children¡¯s negative emotions have sequential dual mediation effects on the relationship between mother¡¯s parenting efficacy and children¡¯s emotion regulation. This study is meaningful in that it has been confirmed that the parents¡¯ beliefs, the role of modeling of emotional expression, and the parenting behavior have important effects on the children¡¯s emotion regulation. Finally, the limitations of the study were examined and suggestions for further research were discussed.
